Matriarkaatti x See Us Afterparty 11pm at Kuudes Linja

at Galleria Käytävä 19.8.-30.8.

Jotainhan meidän maailmassa on vialla (Something has got to be wrong in our world) explores and sketches burnout as phenomenon. It discusses the phenomenon through artistic process. The multiartistic work includes photograps, stop motion video, poems made with letterpress technique, short story and original post it notes collected from exhausted people. The work raises questions and gives different point of views more than gives ready made interpretations and answers.

Fashion show:

The fashion show will be the culmination of the event. It will be attended by fashion designers with their own collections. Each clothing collection is made for this event and they are inspired by mental health issues. After the fashion show, some of the clothes can be seen in the gallery of Lapinlahden Lähde. The event is a valuable occasion for the designers to show their own statements, visions and professional skills around media, industry influencers and the general public.

The exhibition’s pieces will showcase the designer’s interpretations of mental health struggles, or alternatively showcase empowerment through art and fashion. Some of the designer’s pieces can be seen at the See Us- Art Exhibition at Lapinlahden Lähde till the 30th of August.

During the Summer of 2022, See Us Ry organised a two-day silk painting workshop for the volunteers of Pro Lapinlahti Mielenterveysseura Ry. The workshop was designed to support mental health through art and creativity. The scarves painted during this workshop were part of the fashion show as well as in this exhibition. The scarves will be released to their creators after the exhibition. The activities are supported by Pro Lapinlahti Foundation of Viola Ranin.

Interviews:

We support an open discussion for an important topic – Art for the mental health!

On Instagram, we organized an open call for those who has experienced mental health issues. We interviewed how culture and art have helped them overcome their own challenges. Our campaign is designed to make it easier to discuss the problems we have and the aim is to break down the stigma involved. When a certain kind of taboo on the subject is removed, it is also easier for people to ask for help when they need it.
